Heartland Juveniles Services Conference
Our annual conference brings together professionals from a wide variety of disciplines and agencies that provide services to juvenile justice youth including members of the justice system, juvenile service providers, direct care/probation/parole officers, social workers, case managers, educators, mental health counselors, substance abuse counselors, child and youth advocates, law enforcement and other stakeholders in mutual efforts to provide education on the implementation of best practices to strengthen and improve residential and community-based services for youth and their families.
Keynote Speaker, Thursday, April 7:
Dr. James Fallon is an expert in the field of neuroscience and psychiatry and has been with the University of California Irvine for 35 years. Dr. James Fallon has conducted extensive research on human behavior and psychopathy including brain scans which he believes hold the key to understand the underlying causes of aggression, violence and even murder. Dr. Fallon looks at the way nature and nurture intermingle to wire up the human brain. Dr. Fallon has been featured on TED Blog and Radio and has made an appearance on the popular CBS series Criminal Minds, playing himself and addressing the potential for genetic tragedy in chronically war-torn areas of the world.

Utilizing Communication Styles When Working with At-Risk Youth
Fabian Ramirez has gained national recognition on Fox News, NBC & Univision because of the powerful message he sends in his talks. Fabian will teach participants tools to communicate effectively with diverse youth, how to resolve conflict with youth and about the psychological impact of cultural norms on behavior.
A certificate of attendance will be given to each participant to submit for criminogenic CEU hours.
