Robin, Chris and John!! We helped 8 apartment complexes and landlords. We are working with two of our Public Access Agency to build capacity for landlords and tenants to set up appointment for assistance. Thank you First Lady for providing thumb drives and snacks for this attending!!!! Great event, landlords were very grateful. 00:26:31 Elci Warnell (she/her): Is there a way to have an acceptance/guarantee letter to give landlords? 00:26:37 Chandra Essex - Central Navigator: As a Central Navigator, any client I help I have them apply for 3 months forward. 00:27:28 Judi Sickler: At the Kearney "Open House", we even had a landlord attend from Arizona who had property in Kearney. He complimented our community and state for the great support to his tenants after the flood and now with the pandemic. :) GO NEBRASKA! 00:29:39 Denise Zwiener: One landlord said his application he started locked up and routine calls to the 800 number who promised to call home back and never did. He came to workshop to figure out if anyone else could help. Robin and Chris took the info to help him. He is one of our smaller landlords with lots of small housing properties. We work with him a lot in Community response. 00:31:10 Denise Zwiener: Some landlords did not trust giving out drivers license information, etc. cautious of giving out personal information to a system that they did not have any familiarity with. Kearney 00:33:43 John Turner, NIFA: Thanks Denise, yes Robin and Chris shared that information about the landlords in Kearney. We will address that. 00:36:56 Deborah Dancer: Congratulations! 00:37:08 Judi Sickler: Some landlords expressed concern about helping people that were behind on rent due to "poor choices" like taking trips to California instead of paying rent. They didn't believe philosophically with helping those tenants, but understood ERA will help those that have a real need. 00:38:07 Judi Sickler: I also learned that tenants can get assistance even if landlords refuse to register or can't be reached. I was concerned about some of them being left out. Love that there is a safety net for those that apply that qualify. 00:39:13 Deborah Dancer: I remember hearing that type of judgement even if they did not know the whole story. Ultimately, they did not want them as tenants because of personal bias. In those situations, the landlord was only interested in the money and not the people. I concluded that was the case since attempts to mediate were ignored. 00:39:28 Alexandria Labenz: Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program Fact Sheet for the Balance of State: https://ccfl.unl.edu/community-services-management/YHDP_FactSheet.pdf 00:39:57 Mary Pinker: Food Security: 00:39:58 Mary Pinker: • What are the local strategies to fill in gaps left in programs that are ending? • What information do you need regarding summer feeding? • What food security solutions are working in your community? I feel like after all this info I would need to spend a ton of time just thinking about who and what needs to get our attention. I can do that but I wonder if there is a more efficient way to do this? 00:58:18 Jean Fischer: Dawn Peatrowsky might be a place to start 00:58:21 Nikia Gunn-Abdulai: Please add lmojica@nebraskaearly.org to the food security email and my correct email is ngunn-abdulai@nebraskaearly.org 01:04:24 Mary Pinker: Employment and Training: 01:04:25 Mary Pinker: • What are the local barriers to obtaining employment in your area? • What impact, if any, are you seeing on employment rates locally? 01:10:09 Sara Riffel: https://newdealforyouth.org/ 01:10:17 Sara Riffel: https://www.jff.org/resources/state-policy-road-map-equitable-economic-recovery/ 01:10:27 Sara Riffel: https://www.jff.org/resources/american-rescue-plan-funds-can-transform-education-young-adults/ 01:10:29 Elci Warnell (she/her): some barriers that I've seen in the county is transportation, child care (costs/availability/safety concerns), and finding adequate employment for which they are qualified 01:11:30 Tammy Bichlmeier: We are mainly seeing single mothers who have issues with good childcare and having reliable transportation. Many getting no child support; also seeing families with no documentation to gain employment. Also, criminal background or substance abuse or both are issues to why they are not getting employment - at least we believe as they often don't share these obstacles. 01:12:27 Sara Riffel: Via the American Rescue Plan and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), young adults without children who are working but earn less than $21,000 per year are eligible to claim up to $1,500 in tax benefits that can assist youth trying to put themselves through college or make ends meet during a key transitional period in life. For former foster youth and homeless youth, eligibility begins at age 18 and ends at age 24. 01:12:38 Sara Riffel: https://www.cbpp.org/research/federal-tax/american-rescue-plan-act-includes-critical-expansions-of-child-tax-credit-and 01:13:35 Lea Ann Johnson-Kappes: Is that payment to any provider?
