Jamie Bouslaugh From Norfolk Family Coalition. This is my third week here as the central navigator. I have been so busy helping people with COVID relief. I haven’t had a chance to do much with youth yet. 00:23:55 Brady Rhodes: Is there a definition of "homeless" that is out there for us to reference? i.e. are we talking more about 'housing instability' and they are couch-surfing but that counts as homeless or is it really something else? 00:27:11 Cathy Minnick: Good morning! Cathy Minnick, Sandhills Community Collaborative 00:28:09 Sarah Papa: Good Morning! Sarah from Platte-Colfax Community Collaborative 00:28:23 Tori Courter: Good Morning, 00:28:40 Tori Courter: Tori Courter Families First Partnership North Platte and surrounding areas. 00:33:13 Vanessa Sherman: We don't necessarily focus on the funding piece. If school calls about a kid couch surfing we reach out to the family and connect them with a personal "coach" or family support services to repair relationships in the home to get the kid to stay in the home or home of a responsible, stable adult. 00:33:36 LeaAnn Johnson-Kappes: Possibly an opportunity to have a community conversations that includes young people about how we help them feel a greater sense of belonging and connectedness. 00:36:08 Collena: We have worked with the Region 5 Host Homes program. 00:38:43 TBichlmeier: Hi - this is Tammy with Platte - Colfax and I forgot to sign in. Would add though, as I said before, that I have only just done one referral recently to YDHP, but they really only started operating in our area about 7 months ago. We also have the option for youth housing (if old enough) of program at our CAP agency. We do have very good relationships with our schools and Diversion Program so do depend on them to identify the need. 00:39:32 Denise Zwiener: Could we get data from DOE that would give us an understanding of how many youth are not engaged in school last semester, this semester and next semester? Within that data, how many youth completed course work, how many youth are connected to other supports and how many youth are unreachable. Kearney Public has given us those numbers and they are alarming. I don't have their permission to share, yet thinking other schools should be tracking youth in this way...? 00:39:46 LeaAnn Johnson-Kappes: Can the FYI vouchers be aligned with YHDP? 00:39:56 Denise Zwiener: What is YHDP? 00:40:36 Sara Riffel: YHDP - Youth Homeless Demonstration Project via HUD 00:41:49 Sara Riffel: YHDP (or the Youth Homeless Demonstration Project) is funded through HUD and serves youth ages 18-24. In order to access assistance through YHDP, a youth must be referred to coordinated entry, which is our process of identifying, assessing, prioritizing and referring any individual or family in need of housing assistance to the appropriate agency/program. Clients are required to sign two releases in order for us to 1. Collect their information; and 2. Add them to coordinated entry. For youth that are state wards, they would need a guardian to sign off on that release. Any youth that is referred to coordinated entry in Nebraska outside of Lincoln and Omaha is assigned a coach through Central Plains to provide support to the youth through the housing process and beyond. 00:43:03 Caroline Sabin: Caroline Sabin, Families 1st Partnership-North Platte, Lincoln Co. 00:44:17 LeaAnn Johnson-Kappes: I agree with Denise... In many cases if you look at the attendance data (or lack of attendance) in school and work to connect with those youth differently it could impact many areas of their well-being. 00:49:05 LeaAnn Johnson-Kappes: This discussion just speaks to the importance of cross sector connections and alignment. When resources are sparse it takes collective action. 00:50:15 Denise Zwiener: In Buffalo County we have had a couple conversations with Kearney Public Schools to make sure we have resources in their hands as they begin tracking down families to get them connected. It is also identifying gaps in services these families need. Then we also want to hear more from those youth and families what was working well for them in the community.... 00:51:23 Sara Riffel: If a young person is interested in obtaining an FYI voucher, they can email Deanna Brakhage at DHHS - deanna.brakhage@nebraska.gov 00:51:45 Denise Zwiener: It is an estimate, but I would say 11% of youth are not connected to schools 00:52:08 Sara Riffel: https://www.hud.gov/fyi 00:52:27 LeaAnn Johnson-Kappes: It starts with relationships and building trust among partners. 00:53:41 Joanna Murray: MOEC and UWM host the School Based Attendance Coalition which collects and shares metro area attendance data which may be a helpful resource in this discssio 00:53:50 Joanna Murray: Sorry — discussion 01:01:54 LeaAnn Johnson-Kappes: What will help Coordinators continue to grow in their role? 01:02:35 Brady Rhodes: Can we take advantage of the Breakout Rooms and do a few 'Open Space' type conversations/side-training? 01:03:33 Julie Nash: Great idea Brady, I was just thinking the same thing to use breakout rooms. 01:04:00 TBichlmeier: I think that is a great idea! 01:04:50 LeaAnn Johnson-Kappes: Possibly you have an area of focus. Do breakout room around driving question. Then come back and share. 01:05:21 Brady Rhodes: yes 01:07:27 Sara Riffel: That is a fantastic idea! Good thinking- 01:07:40 Denise Zwiener: Would it be possible to bring in the Nebraska Crime Commission into these statewide conversations? They are launching their three year planning process with priorities to launch next year. They have been doing a great job collecting data for counties. 01:07:55 Denise Zwiener: When it comes to youth. 01:10:18 LeaAnn Johnson-Kappes: The experts are in the room! 01:11:06 Brady Rhodes: so I slyly put my question out there - if it is easy for you to send any "working agreements" or "ground rules" for your Steering Committee and/or Collaborative, that would be much appreciated. I can collate them all into a doc to share later. my email: coordinator@unitedwayscne.org 01:11:50 Brady Rhodes: when it is convenient 01:16:25 Steph Gardeman, FFC: I have to sneak out for another meeting. Good discussion everyone! 01:17:40 Caroline Sabin: I still check BaseCamp for information. 01:20:11 LeaAnn Johnson-Kappes: Is there away to build the agenda around the core components of Community Well Being? And then tease out more specifically as needed. Example--- January is Collective Impact Month- what are the questions or needs around CI related to your collaborative. Have multiple discussions (2x per month) then move on. Race, Equity, Inclusion, Protective Promotive Factors...… a thought. 01:21:57 Stephanie Wilhelm: I would like that 01:27:23 JoAnn Gieselman: Sara I think that would be a good idea. 01:27:58 Collena: I like the "series" idea too! 01:28:27 Nichole Hetz: I love that idea! Thank you!! 01:29:11 Julie Nash: I like that idea. 01:29:27 JoAnn Gieselman: Sounds good 01:30:59 TBichlmeier: Thanks everyone - since we won't get to the Contact list, could you please see Mary that my # for Platte County (Tammy) is changed to the CR phone? It is 402-366-5615. Appreciate it! 01:33:59 Julie Nash: Have a great weekend everyone! Stay well! 01:33:59 TBichlmeier: Have a good day everyone! 01:35:08 Caroline Sabin: Thanks! 01:35:14 Tori Courter: Thanks :)
