Overview
Growing up is a journey.
The fact is that far too many children living in Nebraska start out on their journey with huge obstacles to overcome. Left unaddressed these obstacles can create serious problems that may prevent children from growing into healthy, productive and independent citizens. The challenges these children face are significant, but they're not insurmountable.
Your investment in the work of the Nebraska Children and Families Foundation can help remove some of these obstacles before children stumble over them.
How does Nebraska Children help?
Since 1997, our focus has been preventing at risk children (from birth to 21) and their families from entering the child welfare system. We do this by -
- Capitalizing on comprehensive early childhood policy and programs that focus on the critical, first years of life when the foundations of children's cognitive, emotional and social development are laid;
- Reducing the risk of child abuse and neglect through partnerships and policy, and strengthening programs such as parent education programs, home visitation services, and health screenings;
- Enhancing the educational experiences and academic achievement of children and youth through parental involvement in schools, after-school programming, and positive youth development efforts;
- Empowering at-risk youth in foster care and tribal communities through programming and policy initiatives that encourage the development of positive living skills and the transition to independence;
- Investing in people, programs, and communities to strengthen families, prevent child abuse and neglect, support positive youth development, and sustain community collaboratives.
